Engine Shed is delighted to support the Future Brunels programme, run by the ss Great Britain Trust, as part of our Diverse Workforce for the Future programme.
Since 2017, we’ve been hosting a day of hands-on tech workshops for Year 9 pupils across 4 schools in Bristol, in collaboration with large regional engineering firms and smaller companies that Engine Shed and SETsquared Bristol are home to.
The aim of the visit is to introduce students to the real-world applications of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) subjects and to encourage them to consider careers that can use the skills they develop in these areas.
Visits include a tour of Engine Shed to meet with some of their residents, including companies who are part of our tech incubator partner, SETsquared Bristol and Unit DX. The day also includes a coding workshop by DigiLocal.

At Engine Shed we are dedicated to building an inclusive and sustainable ecosystem in the Bristol city region. This starts with young people, and inspiring the future workforce to consider careers in the tech, digital, and sustainability sectors. Currently, adults from Bristol’s diverse community backgrounds are under-represented in these fields, and the Future Brunels programme, like our own Diverse Workforce for the Future project, helps to offer young people from these demographics access to Bristol’s thriving tech scene.
