Applications now open for Head of Engine Shed

Following the announcement that Nick Sturge, Director of Engine Shed since 2013, will be standing down from his position at the end of 2019, applications are now open for the new Head of Engine Shed role.

This multifaceted role requires a focus on strong leadership, networking and partnership development, and project management in a commercial environment. The post holder will be responsible for curating the physical space and developing activities that allow Engine Shed to add value to the University of Bristol’s Research and Enterprise Strategies, SETsquared’s business incubation activity, and where possible, the requirements of other stakeholders.

The new Head of Engine Shed will play a part in place making, cluster building and ecosystem development, and deliver strategic, indirect and direct value to the city region and its parents, the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council, whilst maintaining the valuable neutral brand that Engine Shed has become renowned for.

The role also incorporates the position of SRF CEO. SFR is a subsidiary of the University of Bristol which operates both Engine Shed and SETsquared, positioning Engine Shed as an ecosystem development project and venue alongside the SETsquared Bristol business incubator.

Engine Shed Director and CEO of SRF, Nick Sturge, said:

“I really hope that someone emerges from the local ecosystem, perhaps from one of our community partners, to take on this exciting role. There is a huge opportunity to make an impact on the city region and build stronger connections between the research and teaching base here, and the broad and beautifully diverse community of businesses (in all sectors) and people. Please share as widely as you can – it’s a role for someone to make their own… it’s about building a sustainable and inclusive ecosystem that works for everybody. So everyone wins.”

The deadline for applications is 28 July, and it is highly recommended that applicants contact the University of Bristol’s Research Enterprise and Development (RED) division for an informal discussion.
